The new chargé d’affaires for the Libyan embassy in Seychelles, Lamia T. A. Ezlitni, paid a courtesy call on the Seychelles’ Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne, on Tuesday August 1, 2023.

In attendance was the Clerk of the National Assembly, Tania Isaac, and the deputy Clerk, Alexandria Faure.

As the new chargé d’affaires, Mrs Ezlitni expressed that this welcoming visit was for the purpose of re-establishing the bond between Libya and Seychelles, noting that socio-political affairs in Libya have stabilised recently.

Following the recent composure of Libya’s economy and governmental processes, the desire to restart and strengthen the friendship of the two countries became a priority.

Hon. Mancienne responded that he understood the difficulties Libya has been facing and wished it the best in the pursuit of an open democracy and a restored society.

The Speaker also noted that he was grateful for the relationship between the two countries and hopes to see it continually flourish.

Mrs Ezlitni remarked that despite the distance between Libya and Seychelles, there will always be a strong bond. The discussion then turned to the visibility of the two countries, the potential involved with visa-free access, improved air routes, and the exchange of sports, culture, and trade.

It was noted that the exchanges between the two countries would contribute generously to economic recovery following the past two turbulent years, and an improvement in sustainable development.

Before concluding the meeting, Hon. Mancienne was informed about the improving representation of women in Libya, both politically and generally.

Speaker Mancienne supported this, noting that although Seychelles does see equal representation of women in the workforce, he does strive to see more women entering the political arena and thus reducing the levels of gender disparity.
