Ambassador-designate of Sweden pays courtesy call on Minister Radegonde

The Ambassador-designate of Sweden, Caroline Vicini, paid a courtesy call on the

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, yesterday at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

H.E Vicini will be accredited today at State House before the President of the Republic, Wavel Ramkalawan.

“Ambassador, we are delighted to welcome you to Seychelles and to this new position as ambassador of your country to Seychelles,” expressed Minister Radegonde.

He commented on the good bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed the desire of the Seychelles government to see that relations grow even more in various areas of cooperation.

Minister Radegonde also expressed his appreciation to Sweden for its support in the EU NAVFOR Operation Atalanta during the height of piracy in the Indian Ocean.

He also noted Sweden’s continuous support on issues of direct relevance and importance to Seychelles such as climate change and small islands states’ related issues, in various international forums.

In turn, H.E Vicini expressed her gratitude towards the Seychelles government and the honorary consul for Sweden, Chrystold Chetty, for the support given to the Swedish nationals who were in Seychelles at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

She also noted the change in government in Seychelles marking it as an exciting time for the growth of a healthy democracy.

She concluded by extending an invitation to the Seychelles government to a

conference in Stockholm, in June 2022 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1st Environment Conference which took place in Sweden in the early 1970s.

Also present at the meeting were principal secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave and other senior officials of the Foreign Affairs department.

Seychelles and Sweden established bilateral relations in 1979.
