The new ambassador of the state of Kuwait to the Republic of Seychelles, Mubarak Mohammad Alsehaijan, presented his credentials to President Danny Faure yesterday morning at State House.
In a brief interview with the press after his accreditation, Ambassador Alsehaijan noted that the diplomatic relationship between Kuwait and Seychelles dates some 35 years.
“There have been many official visits from both sides and the Kuwait Fund was also available to fund some projects in Seychelles. I did discuss with (President Faure) many things to enhance the relationship between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Seychelles. It was a successful discussion and I am sure with further discussions we will talk about future collaboration mainly with regard to investment opportunities. After that I will be meeting different authorities and agencies where we will discuss some agreements for the benefit of both countries. We hope that this visit will be successful,” Ambassador Alsehaijan shared.
The ambassador will be based in Dar-es-Salaam.
The State of Kuwait, through the Kuwait fund has loaned Seychelles more than $12 million for projects such as the construction of La Rosière school or other public infrastructure.
Following his accreditation, Ambassador Alsehaijan met the principal secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Marina Confait, at the Maison Quéau de Quinssy.
Dr Confait congratulated Ambassador Alsehaijan on his appointment saying: “Your Excellency, I wish to extend a warm welcome to you and extend my most sincere congratulations upon your appointment as the first accredited ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Seychelles.”
During the meeting, Ambassador Alsehaijan re-assured Seychelles that, “as a brother, Kuwait is devoted to further deepen the good ties that have existed between our countries”.
Dr Confait also stressed that “Seychelles is appreciative of the support extended through the ‘Kuwait Fund for African Development’, under which five major projects were financed”.
Both Ambassador Alsehaijan and Dr Confait further discussed enhancing cooperation in various sectors, namely the Blue Economy, renewable energy, fisheries, tourism among others.
The State of Kuwait and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on July 11, 1988.
