Message by the Minister for Social Affairs, Family and Equality, Pamela Charlette, on the occasion of World Autism Day |01 April 2026

‘Every individual, regardless of ability, deserves dignity, respect, and equal opportunity’

“On the occasion of World Autism Day, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Family and Equality joins the global community in recognising, supporting, and advocating for all persons living with autism.

“This year’s international theme, ‘Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value’, reminds us of a fundamental truth: every individual, regardless of ability, deserves dignity, respect, and equal opportunity. As a ministry, we fully embrace this message and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind.

“Persons living with autism are valued members of our society. They have the same rights as everyone else – including the right to access quality services, appropriate care, education, and opportunities that enable them to reach their full potential.

“Valuing persons with autism requires more than words – it demands action. It calls for inclusive schools and workplaces, access to specialised support services, early intervention, and environments where differences are understood and respected. It also means listening to their voices, supporting families and caregivers, and recognising the unique strengths, talents, and perspectives they bring to our communities.

“Inclusion is not an option; it is a shared responsibility. Let us choose understanding over judgement, acceptance over exclusion, and compassion over silence – because every mind is unique, every voice matters, and every person deserves to belong.

“We call upon families, communities, institutions, and stakeholders to continue working together to build a more inclusive and supportive environment where persons with autism are understood, accepted, and empowered.

“Let us use this day not only to raise awareness, but also to promote acceptance, strengthen support systems, and celebrate the contributions of persons living with autism.

“Together, we can create a society where every life is truly valued.”
