United Seychelles salutes public servants for their diligence and integrity
The leader of the United Seychelles party, Dr Patrick Herminie, has on behalf of his party saluted those public servants working diligently to ensure that they deliver and grow in their respective roles with efficiency, integrity, and much care for the people they serve despite the many challenges.
This comes in Dr Herminie’s message on the occasion of the United Nations Public Service Day being celebrated today, June 23.
The full text of Dr Herminie reads:
“June 23 has since December 2002 been celebrated as the United Nations Public Service Day. A day which gives recognition to the important role being played by all those involved in providing essential service to the public and any service as government employees crucial to facilitate development of the country be it economic, environmental, social, political, or otherwise.
“Holding a position in public service should be one of pride and commitment to serve those in need and provide the necessary support to other public servants in the common interests of our society. Our younger generation should aspire to work as public servants and should receive all the encouragements for a successful and fruitful career in public service without fear of prejudice or political interference.
“The importance of having effective and accountable government institutions is stressed under the Sustainable Development Goal 16 which is also about promoting peaceful and inclusive societies; and highlighted in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
“As concerned citizens we must continue to ensure that government institutions continue to remain transparent, respect democracy and the dignity of the people, and follow the principles of good governance and stewardship for the public good.
“United Seychelles respects and salutes those public servants working diligently to ensure that they deliver and grow in their respective roles with efficiency, integrity, and much care for the people they serve despite the many challenges. The Covid-19 pandemic has shown the extent of the commitment of our public servants working often in life threatening circumstances, but it also flagged the significance of having continuity of service, through shared experiences and knowledge.
A strong network of knowledgeable public servants operating without fear or favour in collaboration with all stakeholders is key to our sustainable development.
“The United Seychelles thus encourages public servants to be empowered to responsibly embrace change in service delivery, for Seychelles and its people to thrive.”
