United Seychelles leader addresses recent online incidents |29 March 2025

 

  • Expresses concerns regarding online discourse and calls for fairness

 

The president of the United Seychelles (US) party, Dr Patrick Herminie, has said that recent online incidents involving alleged racist remarks directed at Honourable Sathya Naidoo, member of the National Assembly for St Louis, during discussions on the United Seychelles motion concerning Travizory, are deeply concerning.

The alleged involvement of private citizen Bernard Sullivan has prompted a joint statement from the LDS leader of government business and the LDS Chief Whip, condemning these remarks and calling for wider condemnation.

“While we acknowledge the seriousness of these allegations, it is essential to address the broader context of online discourse in Seychelles. It is undeniable that social media platforms have, at times, been used to spread divisive and harmful rhetoric. We acknowledge that various political actors, including the LDS and its predecessors, and others, have faced allegations of their supporters engaging in such behaviour,” Dr Herminie said.
