Former President James Michel has sent a message of congratulations to King Charles III on his accession to the throne.

Mr Michel’s message reads:

“I am pleased and honoured to join with so many others to offer you my heartfelt congratulations on your accession to the throne.

“Your accession to the throne is a truly momentous event, not only for the United Kingdom but also for the Commonwealth and the whole world, in need of leaders of your moral fibre, clarity of vision and dependability. Yours are heavy responsibilities in a world fraught with a multitude of crises and challenges, but I have every confidence that the commitment that you have shown to the service of the nation, your experience and your steadfastness will stand you in good stead.

“On a personal basis, I retain fond memories of the meetings that we have had in the past several years. Your spontaneity, warmth and generosity made a lasting impression on me then and revealed to me your qualities as a truly inspirational statesman.

“I wish Your Majesty and the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth every success and prosperity in the tasks which lie ahead.”
