Seychelles Defence Forces promotes discipline, respect and responsibility |23 July 2022
The Chief of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces, Brigadier Michael Rosette, has called on all military officers to promote the values of discipline, respect and responsibility in their day-to-day life and that includes even when they are off duty.
He made this appeal yesterday at the launch of the living values programme within the force, during a ceremony at the Seychelles Defence Academy on Perseverance Island, which was attended by a group of officers and their family members.
When addressing the guests, Brigadier Rosette said the programme is aimed at increasing awareness about living values as values and principles “guide us to do well, to make good choices and recognise when we do wrong, and it demonstrates who we are as humans”.
He said that practicing values and standards is really important in the military.
“It has a fundamental element for all soldiers who have made this patriotic commitment. It also shows our pride as soldiers and the uniform we wear, the value like integrity that guides us to do all that is good not taking into account if we are alone or under supervision,” added Brigadier Rosette.
The three values – Discipline, Respect and Responsibility – will be promoted between now and December and Brigadier Rosette said that all three describe the characteristics and profession of a soldier, as the mission of the force recommends a high standard of discipline on or off duty, respect as to how they treat others and to carry out their responsibility with “devotion, courage, loyalty, determination, where our missions and vision can be accomplished for the benefit of our country”.
Yesterday’s ceremony also saw blessings from Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel Louis Agathine, and performances by popular artists Jones Camille and Jean Ally, as well as some officers.
The Seychelles Defence Forces says six other values will be announced and promoted at the beginning of the next year.
