A delegation of parliamentarians participating in the fifth International Forum of Victoria paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Hon. Roger Mancienne this week

The Speaker was accompanied by Hon. Waven William, chairperson of the International Affairs Committee (IAC), Hon. Egbert Aglae, Hon Phillip Monthy, Hon. Wallace Cosgrow, Hon. Naddy Zialor and the clerk of the National Assembly, Tania Isaac.

The delegation was headed by Fadika Sako, deputy Speaker of the Ivory Coast Senate. The objective of the meeting was to help the participants to better understand the functioning of the National Assembly, with the aim of inspiring good parliamentary practices.

Speaker Mancienne started off the meeting by expressing his appreciation for being able to meet with the delegation to share and exchange the experience of the National Assembly and their respective parliaments. Speaker Mancienne briefed the delegation about the composition of the Assembly, its function, and the characteristics of its sessions.

Likewise, the delegation each gave a brief experience of their respective Assembly namely from Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

One interesting subject that both parties were interested in was the role of women in politics and parliament. Both parties agreed that there is much to be done to encourage more women from the African continent in taking up roles in politics and parliament.

The delegation also had the opportunity to visit the National Assembly and get more historical and actual information about the institution.

The delegation visiting this morning comprised Richmond Ahoua Kominlin Eba Marie Irene, senator of Ivory Coast; Lydie Omanga, presidential envoy of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC); Bokeleale Ebeta Rose Rose-Doree, National Agency for Promotion and Investment in DRC; Olivier Goga, president of Ascension Group of DRC; Christian Kovungbo, director of the Ascension Group; coordinator of the forum Mireille Sialli and the president of Ceps Françoise Larue.
