Japanese ambassador Horie Ryoichi says farewell |17 November 2021
The Japanese ambassador to the Republic of Seychelles, Horie Ryoichi, paid a farewell call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House yesterday morning following a two and a half year tenure of office.
Speaking to the local press after his meeting with the head of state, Ambassador Ryoichi said they discussed the two countries’ good bilateral relations.
“We also talked about the recent COP26 meeting on climate change. I had a very good discussion with the President. For the last two and half years, I enjoyed working with Seychelles. We have provided Seychelles with medical assistance and we are going to provide more such assistance as well as assist in maritime security. I promised the President that Japan will continue to expand its relations with Seychelles,” Ambassador Ryoichi stated.
It was in November 2019 that Ambassador Ryoichi presented his credentials to the then President Danny Faure.
It was also around that time that we saw the opening of the first Japanese diplomatic mission in Seychelles under the direction of the Japanese chargé d'affaires, Ambassador Makoto Tominaga.
Since the two countries established diplomatic relations in June 1976, they have developed strong bonds of friendship and have enhanced collaboration at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
Ambassador Horie Ryoichi was accompanied to State House for the farewell visit by Ambassador Makoto Tominaga as well as his wife.
