World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF)   Victoria elected member of WTCF Third Council |30 September 2021

The Office of the Mayor of Victoria has announced that the city of Victoria was recently elected as a member of the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) Third Council.

WTCF, voluntarily formed by famous tourism cities and tourism-related institutions in the world under the initiative of Beijing, is the world’s first international tourism organisation focusing on cities. It is headquartered in Beijing, and Chinese and English are its official languages.

Starting with 58 founding members, WTCF has now grown into an international tourism organisation with a total of 228 members, which covers 78 countries and regions, including 153 city members, 75 institutional members as well as 288 members among six branches.

Guided by the core vision of ‘Better City Life through Tourism’, WTCF holds the famous world tourism brand event Fragrant Hills Tourism Summits annually. It constructs a platform for its members to exchange experience, reinforce cooperation and build consensus.

Since 2012, WTCF has hosted eight Fragrant Hills Tourism Summits successively in Beijing (China), Rabat and Fez (Morocco), Chongqing (China), Los Angeles (USA), Qingdao (China) and Helsinki (Finland).

WTCF also holds regional conferences, forums, and investment and trade fairs every year. So far, in Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America, Europe and Central Asia, WTCF has held regional conferences and a series of trade fairs, with venue located in Penang (Malaysia), Casablanca (Morocco), Bogota (Columbia), Seville (Spain), Panama City (Panama), Samarkand (Uzbekistan), which fully enhances the global influence of WTCF.

For several years, WTCF has been the content partner of WTM London and released research reports.

Meanwhile, WTCF has been the exclusive co-host of ITB Convention for six sessions consecutively and has held eight activities, including the release of research results and theme forums on tourism market.

WTCF has conducted research and released a series of research results to provide intellectual support for the global tourism industry.

After years of development and its growing ability of appeal, service, guidance and influence in the tourism industry, WTCF is credited as the fastest-growing international tourism organisation in the world.

The council is composed of 54 members of which 37 are city members and 17 are non-city members.

The allocation proportion of city members of the new council is as follows:

-           15 members from Asia (and Oceania) (at most 6 Chinese members);

-           12 members from Europe;

-           3 members from Africa; out of the 13 African candidates, the city of Victoria is among the 3 elected members;

-           3 members from North America;

-           4 members from South America.

The 17 institutional members are from travel agents, airline companies, media companies and other tourism businesses.

The city of Victoria and the tourism department have been invited to participate in the 2021 WTCF Africa Regional Conference which will be held virtually on Thursday October 14, 2021 (1600 to 1800 hours GMT+8), whereby the Mayor of Victoria will be a speaker.
