Provisional nomination dates August 12 and 14 respectively
With just 172 days remaining before the 2025 general elections in Seychelles, the Electoral Commission of Seychelles has officially announced the provisional dates for the nomination of candidates for the presidential and the National Assembly elections as August 12, 2025 and August 14, 2025 respectively. The exercise will be between 9am and 1pm.
The announcement was made by the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Seychelles, Wendy Didon, during a press conference held last Friday morning at the commission’s headquarters, Mont Fleuri. Present were representatives of political parties, independent candidates and the media. The press conference was to explain the procedures and requirements for nomination of candidates for the election, as per the Electoral Act 27 of 2014.
Mrs Didon said the two dates for nomination of candidates are provisional as the information is yet to be gazetted. Publication in the Official Gazette will officially confirm the dates. Mrs Didon made a special appeal to anyone wishing to take part in any of the two elections, to ensure they understand the nomination procedures to become a candidate.
Also present at Friday’s press conference was the chief electoral officer, Manuella Amesbury who gave an overview of the nomination day process and requirements as per the Act. Highlighting the criteria, Mrs Amesbury explained that a person has to be a Seychellois of 18 years and above, and also a registered voter, to qualify as a presidential and/or a National Assembly candidate.
