Secretary general of Comesa calls on Minister Radegonde |31 August 2021
The secretary general of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe, yesterday paid a courtesy call on Minister Sylvestre Radegonde at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.
Ms Kapwepwe is on a three-day official visit here where she will be meeting various high ranking government officials including President Wavel Ramkalawan.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism welcomed Ms Kapwepwe and her delegation to the Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs and proceeded to express his appreciation on behalf of the government for all the support the Comesa has extended to Seychelles throughout the years of membership and particularly for the special consideration given to matters of interest to Seychelles.
Minister Radegonde also took the opportunity to commend the remarkable work that Ms Kapwepwe has been doing since she was sworn in as the secretary general of the Comesa in July 2018.
The tête à tête between Minister Radegonde and Ms Kapwepwe was an opportunity for both parties to discuss and explore areas of cooperation such as trade, technical assistance facilities, among others.
Minister Radegonde assured the secretary general and her delegation of the commitment of Seychelles to continue working with the regional organisation.
On her part, Ms Kapwepwe expressed her appreciation for the great hospitality her delegation and herself have received since arriving here on Saturday .
“I would like to put on record that Seychelles is a very active member of the Comesa on the selected area in which you participate and your commitment by paying the subscription on time which is quite commendable especially proceeding the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic affecting some of our members,” expressed Ms Kapwepwe.
She further extended an invitation to the President of the Republic, Wavel Ramkalawan, through the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Mr Sylvestre Radegonde to the Head of State and Government Summit of Comesa in November 2021. The virtual summit will be hosted by the government of Egypt.
Also present at the meeting were the principal secretary for foreign affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, director general for regional affairs, Steve Lalande and other senior officials of the department of foreign affairs.
