Defence and security committee members visit police, fire and rescue stations on Praslin and La Digue |07 August 2021
Chaired by Hon. Clifford André, the defence and security committee of the National Assembly visited police stations as well as fire and rescue stations on Praslin and La Digue last week.
They visited the Grand Anse Praslin and Baie Ste Anne police stations, Praslin’s Seychelles Fire and Rescue station on Ile Eve, and on La Digue they stopped at the former police station and present one as well as the fire and rescue station.
These visits took place on Friday and Saturday July 30 and 31, 2021.
Members of the committee had the opportunity to have on-site knowledge of all infrastructure and services that are needed in line with the budget requirements.
During the visits, members of the committee also had a chance to interact with staff of the respective departments. The common issues were lack of infrastructure and the need to strengthen support from concerned stakeholders and ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
Other members of the committee who attended the visits were Hon. François Adelaide, Hon. Sandy Arissol, Hon. Churchill Gill, Hon. Michel Roucou and Hon. Doyace Porice. Hon. Gervais Henrie also attended in his capacity as deputy speaker of the National Assembly.
The visits were led by the commissioner of police, Ted Barbé; assistant superintendent Andre Joseph, sub-inspector Stephanie Lewis, inspector Jeris Dufrene, sub-inspector Mervin Samson, assistant divisional officer Antoine Souris and sub-station officer Peter Cheri.
Also present were members of the National Assembly of the districts visited.
