Plaisance man remanded in assault on police case

 

A 37-year-old man from Plaisance, Ian Mellie, has been remanded in police custody for 14 days by the Ile du Port Magistrates’ Court.

The remand is linked to an incident that occurred on September 28, 2026, at Plaisance, during which two police officers were injured while responding to a report and executing a court-issued warrant against the suspect.

In relation to the warrant for which Mellie was being sought, he was also sentenced by the magistrate to six months’ imprisonment.

Two Thai citizens get five years for drug importation

 

Two Thai nationals, Varis Preungprasob and Rutcha Pinitkarn, have each been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Supreme Court for the offence of importing a controlled drug.

The offence was committed on September 2, 2025, following their arrival on an Air Seychelles flight. They were intercepted by Customs and Police officers and, during a search, drugs were found in their possession and seized.

A total of 15,943.9 grammes of cannabis was seized from Preungprasob, while 15,968.6 grammes of cannabis was seized from Pinitkarn.

Bolivian national jailed 20 years for cocaine importation

 

A 32-year-old Bolivian national, Carlos Almanza, has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by the Supreme Court for importing a controlled drug.

Almanza committed the offence on February 21, 2026, following his arrival at the Seychelles International Airport from Antananarivo, Madagascar. He was intercepted by Customs and Police officers.

A search led to the seizure of 3,859.3 grammes and 2,407.2 grammes of cocaine found in his possession.
