PS Morel addressing the gathering

The Ministry of Employment & Human Resource Planning has proposed significant changes to Seychelles’ quota system for non-Seychellois workers, aimed at addressing labour shortages while safeguarding opportunities for local employees.
The proposals were presented yesterday during a full-day Quota Review Validation Workshop at the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) conference room, where employers and stakeholders reviewed recommended quota allocations based on current labour market conditions, workforce demands and the availability of Seychellois workers.
However, consultant Dr Gerard Adonis stressed that the figures presented remain under review and are subject to change before being submitted to Cabinet.
The workshop brought together representatives from the tourism, transport, retail, construction, financial services, gambling, professional services, agriculture, manufacturing, fisheries, domestic work, security and beauty sectors, as well as the public sector and non-governmental organisations. Minister for Employment & Human Resource Planning, Idith Alexander, also attended.
In her opening remarks, principal secretary Susan Morel said the review extends beyond the employment sector and requires collaboration among stakeholders from education, immigration, economic and social sectors, as well as the private sector.
