More than 500 members of the Tamil community gathered at the International Conference Centre Seychelles (ICCS) on September 20 for the Seychelles Tamil Mandram's annual Aadi Thiruvizha celebration, an event showcasing Tamil culture, tradition, music and community spirit.
The annual festival, which marks the auspicious Tamil month of Aadi, brought together children, parents, teachers, volunteers and community members for a programme of cultural performances, traditional activities and competitions.
The celebrations began a week earlier at English River secondary school, where more than 200 participants took part in a variety of traditional and sporting competitions. These included rangoli, essay writing, drawing, hit-the-pot, throwball and basketball contests for both children and adults.
The main event at ICCS featured a colourful cultural programme presented by students of the Seychelles Tamil School and members of the wider Tamil community. Through music, dance and other performances, participants showcased the richness of Tamil culture while demonstrating their creativity and talent.
