Global Development Initiative: China’s proposal for shared global prosperity
Development is an eternal theme of human society. Many of the challenges facing the world today can be traced back to issues of development. Only by promoting common development among all countries can we build a world of shared prosperity and enable people of all nations to lead better lives.
On September 21, 2021, the Chinese President Xi Jinping solemnly put forward the Global Development Initiative (GDI) at the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, calling on the international community to place development at the centre of the global macro-policy framework and jointly steer global development towards a new stage of balanced, coordinated and inclusive growth. The GDI confronts the global development deficit head-on, responds to the strong desire of people across the world for a better life, and sends a resounding call for achieving common prosperity and development across the world.
