Former GM Veronique Laporte tells CCCL inquiry explosives oversight not her direct responsibility

Former Civil Construction Company Limited (CCCL) general manager Veronique Laporte yesterday told the Commission of Inquiry into the December 7, 2023 explosion at CCCL’s explosives storage facility in Providence/Petit Paris that while she was aware of the company’s explosives operations, she was not directly responsible for their technical management.

Ms Laporte, now Minister for Transport, Ports & Civil Aviation, served as CCCL’s general manager and group general manager from 2005 until late 2009. Her testimony focused on her knowledge of the explosives magazine, the personnel responsible for its operation, licensing and safety procedures, and the limits of her own managerial role.
