Anglican Diocese revokes licence of Reverend Simon Fred

The Anglican Diocese wishes to inform the faithful and the wider community that, following careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding the conduct of Reverend Dr Simon Fred serving within the Diocese, the Bishop has decided to revoke his ministerial licence with immediate effect.

Reverend Dr Simon Fred had reached the normal retirement age of 65 and had subsequently been granted a further two-year extension to his service. However, serious concerns have arisen regarding his conduct during this period.

The behaviour in question is considered to have gravely undermined the credibility and reputation of the Church and has caused considerable concern and anger within the wider community. Of particular concern to the Bishop is the fact that the conduct has been repeated despite previous intervention and the expectation that the matter would not recur.

After due consideration, and with the responsibility of safeguarding the integrity of the Church and maintaining the confidence of the faithful and the wider community, the Bishop has therefore determined that the priest's ministerial licence should be revoked.

This decision means that the priest is no longer authorised to exercise priestly ministry on behalf of the Diocese, including presiding at liturgical celebrations or undertaking other official ministerial functions within the Diocese, unless expressly authorised by the Bishop.

The Diocese recognises that this announcement may cause disappointment, concern or questions among members of the faithful. The Bishop wishes to assure the community that the decision has not been taken lightly, but has been made in accordance with the responsibilities entrusted to him and with the need to uphold the dignity, credibility and good order of the Church.

The Diocese remains committed to transparency, accountability and the highest standards of conduct among all who exercise ministry in the Church. At the same time, it asks the faithful and the wider community to respect the privacy and dignity of all persons involved.
