Tourism: Africa is redefining the travel experience
African tourism is undergoing a profound transformation. The latest data from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) shows a sector accelerating fast, but behind the economic performance lies a deeper shift: the continent is no longer just selling destinations – it is building experiences.
Growth above the global average
According to the WTTC, tourism generated $228 billion across Africa in 2025, equal to 7% of continental GDP – up 5% from the previous year. This growth outpaced both the African and global economies. For 2026, the organisation forecasts a further rise to $241 billion, confirming strong momentum.
