Cabinet approves relocation and expansion of elderly home on La Digue |08 July 2026
At its latest meeting, Cabinet officially approves the relocation and expansion of the La Digue Home for the Elderly, marking a major step toward ensuring the island’s elderly population enjoys a safe, healthy, and dignified living environment.
The current six-unit facility, which opened on June 26, 1999, is operating at full capacity. Vice-President Sebastien Pillay explained that its proximity to the new La Digue sewage treatment plant – located within the 30–50 metre buffer zone – has raised valid concerns about potential odours and disruptions from routine operations.
