No Ebola cases in Seychelles, health authorities reassure public

• Preparedness plan activated following WHO alert

 

“There are no Ebola cases in Seychelles,” Dr Jude Gédéon, Public Health Commissioner, confirmed during a press conference yesterday alongside consultant physician Dr Ramprasath Anbazhagan.

Dr Gédéon explained that following the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) declaration of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on May 17 – due to Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda – the national Ebola response plan and the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) committee were reactivated. He emphasised that Seychelles maintains an active surveillance system tailored to the nature of each outbreak.
