SBC secures broadcast rights for FIFA World Cup 2026 |06 June 2026
The Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation is pleased to announce that it has secured the rights to broadcast selected matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026, bringing one of the most anticipated global sporting events directly to the Seychellois public.
Following extensive negotiations with FIFA’s regional agent, the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) will air a total of 44 matches, including all fixtures from the Quarter Finals onwards, ensuring that audiences across the country can experience the most decisive and exciting stages of the competition.
- Opening phase coverage: Selected group-stage matches featuring top teams and high-interest fixtures
- Knockout stage: Coverage of key matches from the Round of 16
- Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals & Final: Full live coverage of all matches
SBC’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will run throughout the tournament period in June and July 2026.
44 matches represent the maximum number of matches permitted for non-commercial broadcasters under current FIFA policy.
A detailed match timetable, including kickoff times adjusted to Seychelles time, will be published ahead of the tournament across SBC’s platforms and updated regularly.
The matches will be broadcast with French commentary. This is according to FIFA’s policy for our region and which allowed SBC to obtain more matches than the standard 34 matches allocated to Free-to-Air broadcasters.
Digital streaming access
In line with evolving audience preferences, SBC will complement its linear television coverage with digital streaming on SBC+, enabling viewers to access selected matches and highlights online, on multiple compatible devices.
SBC+ catch-up functionality will allow viewers to view the matches at a time of their choosing, ensuring that residents across the islands can conveniently follow the tournament when and where they want. Due to rights and licensing agreements, digital streaming of FIFA World Cup 2026 content will be strictly limited to viewers within the territory of Seychelles.
A unifying national moment
As the nation’s sole public broadcaster, SBC proudly reaffirms its mandate to serve all Seychellois by delivering content of national and international importance. The FIFA World Cup is more than a sporting competition; it is a celebration of unity, passion, and shared human experience. Through its broadcast, SBC will ensure that every household and football enthusiast has the opportunity to feel connected to this global spectacle.
The timing of the tournament is particularly significant, as Seychelles celebrates 50 years of Independence during the month of June. Football, the nation’s most popular sport, will play a meaningful role in these commemorations, providing an opportunity to strengthen national pride and unity during this historic golden jubilee.
SBC extends its sincere gratitude to the government of Seychelles for providing the necessary funding to acquire these broadcast rights.
SBC looks forward to bringing the excitement, drama, and joy of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to audiences across the nation.
