Tamil New Year cultural celebration in Seychelles |02 May 2026

The Seychelles Tamil Mandram hosted a grand cultural event on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the International Conference Centre (ICCS) to commemorate Chithirai Thiruvizha and the Tamil New Year.

A troupe of 22 folk artists from India performed vibrant traditional shows, initiated by the Tamil Nadu Department of Art and Culture. The programme featured energetic displays of karakattam, kali aatam, oyil aatam, kavadi aatam, and the highlight performance of Parai Attam by Mr Velmurugan (Velu Aasan), recipient of the Padma Shri award (2025) for his outstanding contribution to Tamil folk art.  To continue reading, please click here to subscribe to Seychelles NATION’s e copy
