Bush fire at Mont Plaisir contained after five-hour effort |28 January 2026

Firefighters from the Praslin fire station spent nearly five hours extinguishing a bush fire at Mont Plaisir in the district of Grand Anse Praslin on Monday afternoon.
The blaze, reportedly started by an individual, spread rapidly and proved difficult to contain. The person responsible has since been charged and fined R1,500.
The incident was reported at around 1.12pm, after police officers alerted firefighters that a deliberately lit fire had quickly spiralled out of control.
