US and LDS up for rerun

 United Seychelles (US) presidential candidate Dr Patrick Herminie and Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) candidate, incumbent Wavel Ramkalawan, will go head to head in a second round of presidential election, to be held on October 9, 10 and 11.

The rivals from the two main political parties failed to secure over 50 percent of valid votes cast, as required by the Elections Act and the Seychelles Constitution. Following the general elections on September 25, 26 and 27, Dr Herminie garnered 30,736 votes representing 48.8 percent of valid votes, while Mr Ramkalawan secured 29,230 votes, or 46.4 percent.

It was chairperson of the Electoral Commission Seychelles (ECS), Wendy Didon, who made the announcement during the official results ceremony at around 9.30am yesterday.
