Special election interview: Patrick Herminie (United Seychelles)

In the first round of the presidential election, United Seychelles’ candidate, Dr Patrick Herminie, secured a total of 30,736 votes, representing 48.8 percent.

Seychelles NATION: You are heading into the rerun after a closely contested first round. What do you believe the results say about the mood and priorities of the Seychellois electorate today?

Patrick Herminie: Firstly, we would like to thank all the voters who chose to vote for the US candidates as their representatives in the National Assembly. I can also reiterate that the elected members of the National Assembly are dedicated to the prospect of our beloved country and will ensure that the interests of “the many, not the few” are respected and implemented as per our manifesto. I would equally like to thank the voters who have cast their votes in my favour. I believe that the Seychellois voters are politically mature. Many promises were made in 2020 by the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS). The 2025 results is a concrete indication that voters are disappointed in the executive and implementation of the supposed ‘change’ that they were promised. Despite having all odds in his favour with the 2/3 LDS majority in the assembly, he still managed to let the Seychellois people down. From 54.8% in 2020 down to 46.4% in 2025. The loss of 8.4% of supporters speaks loudly.
