Electoral Commission hosts intensive training for
electoral officers, deputies ahead of 2025 elections
The Electoral Commission of Seychelles yesterday launched its first in a series of three training programmes for Electoral Officers and deputy Electoral Officers aimed at strengthening electoral preparedness and enhancing the integrity of the upcoming elections.
The sessions, scheduled for July 12, 19, and 26, 2025, are being held at the Electoral Commission headquarters, and one will be on Praslin.
In a press release, the commission said with the overarching goal of upholding a transparent, secure, and efficient voting process, the training focuses on fostering public trust and confidence in the electoral system and its outcomes.
Key objectives are to equip polling officers with standardised procedures and protocols to follow before, during, and after voting, clarify the roles and responsibilities of Electoral Officers (EOs) and their deputies and assistant Electoral Officers (DEOs), enhance technical knowledge in the setup and operation of polling stations and improve accuracy in vote sorting and counting.
Participants are engaging in both theoretical and practical sessions facilitated by senior officials, who are themselves Electoral officers who have assumed this role over many years. Sessions cover essential topics such as the duties of polling station staff, proper arrangement of voting stations, and hands-on practice in sorting and counting ballots, explained the commission.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the Commission, Manuela Amesbury, officially opened the event, emphasising the importance of a well-prepared electoral team in ensuring a smooth and credible election process. The day concluded with an evaluation session and closing remarks by the CEO of the Commission.
This initiative underscores the Electoral Commission’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of electoral integrity and professionalism, added the communique.
