Implementation of tourism environmental levy postponed |01 April 2023

The Ministry of Finance, National Planning & Trade has announced the postponement in the implementation of the tourism environmental levy, initially to take effect on April 1.

The delay in implementation follows discussions and consultations carried out with the tourism industry on the introduction of the levy, following which the ministry has presented to the government the views and proposals put forward by the industry.

Having considered the views of the industry positively, the government has requested the ministry to undertake further assessments on the most feasible option that would circumvent issues addressed by the industry while ensuring that the intended fiscal and environmental objectives are not affected.

Details of the structure and date of implementation of the levy will be communicated to the industry within two weeks.
