Ministry of Education rewards best learners of 2021 |01 July 2022
The Ministry of Education has rewarded pupils who have performed exceptionally well in the 2021 national and international examinations.
This was through a Best Learner Award ceremony held yesterday at the Seychelles Institute for Teacher Education (Site) in the presence of the principal secretary for Education Services, Merna Eulentin; the principal secretary for Education Sector Development, John Lesperance; educators; parents and pupils.
For the Best Learner Award 2021, 30 pupils who completed P6, S5 and Advanced Level studies last year were awarded with various prizes.
The director general for Allied Education Services Division, Cyril Pillay, stated that “success of our students at all levels remain significant in our ministry’s strategic plan”.
He added that the year 2020 to 2021 has been two challenging years for teaching and learning.
He further highlighted that the pupils had to work hard and adapt to different ways of studying and overcame many challenges to produce excellent results in 2021.
The awards were given in four phases, with the best performers in the P6 National exams, S5 students who have performed well in the national examinations and students following general skills pathway. The awards were presented to pupils who performed outstandingly well in the DELF examinations and IGCSE with the last group being pupils who scored the highest marks in Advanced Level examinations.
Mr Pillay handed over the prizes to the P6 high achievers per subject. They are Ezra Hall (Social Studies) from Anse Etoile school, Amelle Bonne (Creole) from Perseverance primary, Hailey Melanie (English) from Plaisance primary, Meganne Fanchette (French) from La Digue school, Ahmed Awad Alla (Mathematics) from Beau Vallon primary and Laura Bergmann (Science) from Anse Boileau primary.
The chief education officer in the assessment section in the Ministry of Education, Kevil Telemaque, presented awards to the top 3 pupils in P6 who performed well nationally.
In first place with 531 points is Ezra Hall from Anse Etoile school followed by Amelle Bonne from Perseverance primary in second with 524 points. Third place went to Bruce Lafortune with 517 points also from Perseverance primary.
For S5 national examinations, Nyssa Uranie from Praslin secondary and Angela Calva from Mont Fleuri secondary came out on top in Mathematics. They were presented with their prizes by Jean Alcindor, the chief education officer in the education sector development.
Mr Alcindor also presented the top performers in the General Skills Pathway programme for French. They are Naomie Dupres and Merydith William from Beau Vallon and Tarah Etienne from Mont Fleuri.
The best performer in Delf B2 went to Luigi Frederick from Perseverance secondary school and he was presented with his prize by Alex Souffe.
The high achievers for IGCSE all awarded with A* were presented with their prizes by PS Eulentin.
The high achievers are: Anorah Renaud (Chemistry and Maths) from Pointe Larue, Manilka Senevirathna (Chemistry, Biology, ICT) from English River, Charlotte Quatre (English as a first language) from English River, Hope Nourrice (English as a second language) from English River, Ammar Mohamed Muna (Maths) from Perseverance secondary, Ellery Fock-Yune (Geography) from Perseverance secondary, Manon Hoareau (Geography) from Perseverance secondary, Fabian Nolin (History) from Perseverance secondary and V. Hari, Sivavadivelu (Physics) from Anse Boileau secondary.
The top three students nationally for IGCSE are Anorah Renaud from Pointe Larue secondary (first place), Adriano Ulcoq from La Digue (second place) and Gael Micock from La Digue (third place).
The awardees were presented with their prizes by Mr Telemaque.
Gina Balette, the director general for human resource and administration, presented prizes to the students who performed exceedingly well in Advanced Level examinations. The high achievers per subject are Bixente Labaleine (Computer Science, Physics, Maths and Chemistry), Jean-Pierre Barallon (Computer Science, Biology), Sylvius Laporte (Art and Design), Christine Lungu (Geography) and Maeve Bonte (Biology).
Mr Pillay stated that it is the hard work of the pupils that have been acknowledged, noting that the award ceremony is to promote the perseverance and diligence of the pupils.
“As we acknowledge your success we must also recognise the teachers who have worked tirelessly to bring out their success as well as the parents,” he noted.
The pupils are currently in secondary, post-secondary or awaiting university studies.
DG Pillay noted that it is imperative that these pupils continue to take their studies seriously and to make the most of the opportunities they have within their grasps.
