TDB Board of Governors - Minister Peter Larose assumes chairmanship |01 September 2017
Dr Peter Larose, the Minister for Finance, Trade & Economic Planning, has assumed chairmanship of the Board of Governors of the Trade & Development Bank (TDB) for the coming year.
This is the 2nd time Seychelles take over chairmanship of the TDB; the first was in 2010 when President Danny Faure, then Minister for Finance, assumed the position at the bank which was then called PTA Bank.
Minister Larose took over the position from Ambassador Claver Gatete, the Minister for Finance, Trade & Economic Planning of Rwanda, yesterday, the third day of the 33rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Governors of the TDB taking place this week at the Savoy Resort, Beau Vallon.
Speaking about his year-long mandate, outgoing chairman Gatete said it has indeed been a great honour to have served the TDB.
“It has opened my eyes further to the developmental challenges facing the region and more so, the importance of building capable financial institutions such as the TDB,” he said.
Mr Gatete said it is with pride and poise that he hands over the steering wheel to Minister Larose, as the next board chairman.
“This is a clear demonstration of the important role that Seychelles now plays in the leadership and progression of this institution. I have no doubt that Dr Larose has what it takes to move the TDB to the next level of transformation as the bank embarks on the first year of its next five-year corporate plan 2018-2022,” Mr Gatete added.
The president and chief executive of the TDB, Admassu Tadesse, also extended a warm welcome to Dr Larose. “I extend a warm welcome to Dr Peter Larose, our incoming chairman, and we look forward to working with you over the next year,” Mr Tadesse said.
He also extended heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the Ministry of Finance, Trade & Economic Planning, the government and people of Seychelles for hosting the weeklong series of meetings and for the warm hospitality reserved for the delegates.
Minister Larose said his appointment in the position, albeit for one year, is an honour not only for him but for Seychelles.
“It is a very important responsibility to push for the implementation of the TDB’s strategic plan for the coming years even though the chairmanship position is for just one year,” Minister Larose said.
But he added that as a shareholder of the TDB the people of Seychelles should be proud of this achievement which is also a great opportunity to increase Seychelles’ visibility and to push for financial support for local sustainable infrastructural development projects as well as projects in other sectors.
As chairperson of the TDB Minister Larose said that he will ensure member countries trust their bank and explore and tap into all benefits it can offer them in terms of funding support.
Minister Larose said even though he will have new added responsibilities he will continue to hold his position as minister.
