SNYC rewards outstanding youths |10 December 2014

The Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) has rewarded young people whose contributions to society have been outstanding during the year 2014.

This was done during the 13th Seychelles Youth Award ceremony which was held at the International Conference Centre (ICCS) last Saturday afternoon.

The activity was attended by the leaders of the opposition and government business in the National Assembly respectively David Pierre and Marie-Antoinette Rose, principal secretary for Youth Alain Volcère, SNYC chief executive Vicky van der Westhuizen, youth workers, parents and the youths themselves.

The youths were awarded in four different categories and as prizes they received a trip to Cousin, Aride or Curieuse island, a trophy and certificate.

The Positive Youth Image Award which rewards exemplary conduct in secondary and post secondary schools went to the following: Julino Nourrice (Anse Royale), Eddie Morel (Beau Vallon), Shamira Barbier (English River), Bertrand Loze (Plaisance), Chabella Rath (Pointe Larue), Emma Didon (Anse Boileau), Kaicha Valentin (Belonie), Anisa Souffe (Mont Fleuri), Lee-Anne Wong (Independent School) and Nelly Bouchereau (La Digue).

For post secondary institutions, the same award was distributed as follows:  Rolira Young (Seychelles Tourism Academy), Elvina Brutus (School of Visual Arts), Clyvie Delpech (Seychelles Institute of Technology), Julian Chetty (School of A-Level studies), Elvina Barreau (Seychelles Agricultural and Horticultural Training Centre), Mary Godley (Seychelles Police Academy), and Alisha Jean-Louis (School of Business Studies).

The Young Animators’ Award which rewards community involvement went to:

Alister Arnephy, Cynthia Marie, Angelique Volcy, Brigitte Cupidon, Trevor Annette, Jemmy Rabat, Joel Bistoquet, Shabella Ethienne, Rosetta Alcindor, Julius Simeon, Richie Sinon, Vincent Germain, Rico Freminot, Steven Bertin, Maureen Labrosse, Marie-Michelle Madeleine, Shanna Morel, Louisiana Camille, Solana Bibi, Alister Amblavany, Sarah Simon, Bianca Lesperance, Allen Doudee, Travis Quatre, Corine Canaya, Anna Lespoir, Elma Dogley and  Angela Morel.

Ten young workers received the Career’s Excellence Award. They also received a gift from their employees.

They are Curtis Azemia, Doreen Leon, Nyla Gonthier, Claudette Henry and Innocent Marie from the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) and Terryl Confiance, Leroy Samedi, Dario landry, Allen Doudee, Clive Stephen from  the Police force.
 
Twenty one youths from the Young Citizens’ Movement who will be leaving the movement this year also received a token of appreciation.

Addressing the awardees, Mr Volcére said the award recipients were rewarded as they had shown more love and motivation in class or at work than others. He added that they had also excelled in national activities.

The principal secretary qualified them as “young ambassadors who will explain the merit of SNYC programmes to other youths”. He reminded that there are many opportunities offered to the youth in general, with sufficient options to satisfy each and every one of them.

“Youth is the present and the future,” he said.

He concluded by calling on all Seychellois youths to take their responsibility at school or work place. He asked them to take care of their health and act in a way which society awaits of them.

“The effort of you all is needed to bring development to our country” was his message to his protégés.

The ceremony included cultural pieces which the youth will be presenting at the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) cultural manifestation to be held in Mauritius from December 15-19.
