Education for All (EFA) review report validation workshop |09 July 2014

Towards the end of 2013, Unesco (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) requested all its member states to undertake an Education for All (EFA) review 2015.

This exercise entails an assessment of the six EFA goals, a review of implementation of national strategies and determination of current educational challenges and future education agenda.

An EFA review team was constituted by the Ministry of Education comprising key partners such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports, non-governmental organisations and national education institutions. The main objectives of the team were to plan, organise, coordinate and implement the main review tasks and to prepare the National EFA 2015 Review Report.

The Ministry of Education organised a two-day workshop in March 2014 to educate stakeholders on EFA goals and their roles and responsibilities in preparation for the assessment review.

The workshop was run by Yayoi Segi-Vitchek, regional programme coordinator and programme specialist for education from Unesco Regional Office for Eastern Africa.

Following this workshop technical committees were formed to work on each of the six EFA goals. The main functions of the technical committee were to carry out in-depth review tasks pertaining to specific EFA goals, strategies and themes. They also gathered and analysed related data, reviewed research and studies to extract salient elements and to contribute to writing specific parts of the National Review Report. The final report was compiled by a national consultant, Dr Marie-Therese Purvis.

On Thursday July 3, over 40 EFA national stakeholders including members of the EFA Review Team and technical committees convened in a half-day workshop ran by the consultant to discuss and finalise the contents of the report as part of the national validation process.
The final EFA Review 2015 report will then be forwarded to the Unesco headquarters in Paris.
