Volleyball: World Cup qualifiers moved |13 January 2014
The dates for the 2014 volleyball World Cup qualifiers in which Seychelles’ men and women’s national sides are expected to compete, have been moved.
Sports Nation contacted Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF) chairman Jude Florentine for clarification on the subject but he said the reason for this change is unclear, but what is clear is that the qualifiers will go ahead as planned on the new dates.
The men’s national side will now play their matches from March 2-8 instead of January 19-25 as originally scheduled.
They will travel to Tunisia for the qualifiers where they will face hosts Tunisia, Congo, Niger and Senegal in pool C for a place in the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World Cup in Poland 2014. The World Cup final will take place September 3-21 2014, with Brazil going as the defending world champions.
There is also a change in the dates of the women’s qualifiers. They will take place from February 16-23 rather than February 19-24.
The Seychelles women’s team have been drawn in pool B where they will be up against hosts Kenya, Uganda, Tunisia, Senegal, Mozambique and Cape Verde for a place in the tournament finals that will be held in Italy.
The women’s World Cup will take place from September 23 to October 12 where Russia will be looking to defend their title.
