Au Cap briefed on community projects |26 January 2011
In the packed conference hall of the new primary school on Saturday, district administrator Muriel Marie said achievements last year included a playing field, a daycare centre, a pavement next to the school and hedges all around it.
There were also 36 house improvements, while six two-bedroom flats were built at Gaza as well as bedsitters at Capucin under the pti payot scheme.
Other projects carried out included bus shelters, a water barrier at Pointe Au Sel and retaining wall and drainage at Green Estate.
Ms Marie also noted that the last pit latrine in the district was closed last year and replaced with modern toilet facilities.
The highlight of the presentation was district National Assembly member Marc Naiken speaking about the redevelopment of the Domaine de Val des Près craft village.
He said this will include renovation of the Grann Kaz (plantation house), which will incorporate a Creole restaurant. It is to be revamped to conserve its traditional concept of bygone days, complete with antique furniture.
The Musée Coco will also be redeveloped, with workshops specialising in various coconut products. And the Vye Marmit restaurant will be renovated with Creole architecture and will specialise in Creole cuisine.
The project will also feature a farm and an open stage, which will be the site of the Bazar Au Cap to be held every month as from February, Mr Naiken added.
An innovation will be the building of several chalets at the domaine to cater for tourists.
This will allow visitors who are interested in knowing more about the Seychellois culture to live in a typically Creole ambiance and eat our local foods.
Because the site is being planned as a major tourism attraction, there will be an entry charge for non-residents.
