Fishing authority rewards long-serving staff |30 December 2010
This was marked by the presence of Minister for Investment, Natural Resources and Industry Peter Sinon and special adviser for investment and natural resources Finley Racombo, who is also the SFA’s acting chief executive.
The ceremony was also attended by principal secretary for investment and natural resources Michael Nalletamby, other high government officials and SFA board members and staff.
The two longest-serving workers, James Sinon and Clifford Toussaint, received awards for their 25 years with the fishing authority.
Five staff were rewarded for working 20 years – Joan Didon, Ketsia George, Basile Louis-Marie, Roy Clarisse and Bernadette Gill.
Daniel Jolicoeur, Jimmy Louis, Gerard Ernesta and Vincent Lucas were rewarded for their 15 years of work, while Francis Marie received an award for working 10 years with the SFA.
Afterwards, Mr Sinon thanked the staff for their hard work and promised them better working conditions as of next year.
He said it is vital for any organisation to have good communications, and staff have to feel proud of their work. He was happy to meet all SFA staff recently when he had the chance to learn about their grievances and suggestions.
“Your comments and views have helped me to try to make a difference before it was too late,” said Mr Sinon.
He told the staff that the SFA has a very important role to play in the economy, managing our fisheries and other underwater resources efficiently.
“We need qualified staff in certain domains; human resources are important in any organisation,” he added.
He then wished all staff success in the coming year and asked them to aim for more productivity in their work.
