Tourism academy accredited by City and Guilds |22 October 2010
This follows an audit by the institute consisting of regular reviews of the standards and qualifications of the academy, which can now offer courses to local people as well as international students.
With this accreditation, the STA will go ahead with plans to offer an international hospitality management programme, which includes courses for the Advanced Certificate and Diploma in food and beverage services, reception operations and services, and international tourism.
It will also be able to offer the Advanced Certificate in accommodation operations and services, and the Advanced Certificate Diploma and Advanced Diploma in food preparation and culinary arts.
The advanced diploma and degree courses will be for the STA’s management students and are provided by Shannon College of Hotel Management under the accreditation of the National University of Ireland.
The City and Guilds qualifications are recognised all over the world and will greatly benefit the students in their career prospects.
STA principal Flavien Joubert welcomed this new achievement and said the academy has been certified to offer the international qualification courses for a period of two years, starting from October 1 this year.
“The STA now needs to sustain this accreditation,” he said.
“The academy with its partners should continue to come up with better ways to ensure it gets quality Seychellois students from secondary schools with proper motivation, a positive attitude towards hotel and tourism careers, and a proper mindset,” he said.
He said the accreditation shows the academy can deliver, but at the same time it needs proper young Seychellois with a genuine interest to take these qualifications.
