Seychelles opens Singapore tourist office |01 October 2010
Welcoming some 150 tourism trade representatives and Singapore-based press at an evening ceremony on Tuesday, Myrna Michel – Seychelles’ tourism director for Asia and Australasia – said her office is committed to growing the market and they are counting on the support of the Singapore travel trade.
A trade delegation from Seychelles had travelled to Singapore for the event including general managers Derek Savy of the Elite Club, Eddie D’Offay of Mason’s Travel, Alice Tirant of Creole Travel Services, Philip Guiton of the Ephelia Resort, Martijn Brouwer of North Island, and Fulgere Morel, resident manager of the Castello Beach Hotel.
Antoine Chahwan, the regional vice-president and general manager of the Four Seasons Resort – which had joined with the Seychelles Tourism Board to organise the evening – said the hotel group is a committed partner for Seychelles and is proud to have one of its top resorts in the country.
STB chief executive Alain St Ange talked about the natural attributes of the Seychelles islands, which he said are free from diseases, safe as a destination and ideally located away from the cyclone belt and epicentres of tsunamis.
“Seychelles prides itself on being the land of perpetual summer, with clean, white, sandy beaches and turquoise-blue seas,” he said.
“Seychelles is also an unspoiled destination promoting a personalised style of tourism called the Seychelles Brand – a brand that is centred on people and a brand that takes Seychelles out of the ordinary because Seychelles is not, and will not be, aiming at the commercialisation of its tourism industry.”
Mr St Ange said the islands have benefited greatly from the Dubai hub, which is well served by Emirates airline, and the STB is now working with Singapore to become the hub for Asia and Australasia.
“We need an Asian airline such as Singapore Airlines to be our partner,” he said.
The Seychelles evening saw a Creole buffet presented by two Seychellois chefs from the Four Seasons, and music with dancing by the island band Zez.
