Opposition leader sends good wishes on Independence Day 2010 |30 June 2010
“On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the creation of our nation I wish to express my best wishes to all the people of Seychelles, both for this day itself and for our common future.
“Independence on June 29, 1976, when the Seychellois people came together as one, was an experience that we shared in harmony and with pride. The unity expressed on that occasion inspired us to believe that we could forge a strong nation that would embrace all its people like a loving mother embraces all its children. Despite the setbacks that we have experienced, I am sure we can find and uphold that spirit of unity and common purpose.
“We are a small country which is only the size of a town in most parts of the world. This makes it easier and at the same time more important for all of us to belong together and work for progress and social justice.
“As we embark on our 35th year, I wish everyone a time of good health and prosperity in our endeavours, with peace and respect for each other in our small nation.”
