Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC)
The AMC is an annual competition organised by the Australian Maths Trust for schools worldwide. Every year schools in Seychelles take part in this competition under the supervision of the Extra Curricular Activities unit of the Ministry of Education. This year the State schools took part with 120 entries. The results were highly encouraging with 33 credits, 14 distinctions and one high distinction.
The high distinction was scored by Kelvin Morel of the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT). The distinctions were from Anse Boileau Secondary – six students; English River Secondary – one student; Mont Fleuri Secondary – two students; Praslin secondary – two students; Anse Royale Primary – one student; Plaisance Primary – one student; Pointe Larue Primary – one student.
Anil Arnephy-Ladouce of the School of Advance Level Studies (SALS) was awarded the Prudence Award. This is given to the competitor, by region, who has the most consecutive correct answers.
Winners were congratulated and rewarded in a ceremony at the Ministry of Education last week.
Commonwealth Essay Competition
The Commonwealth Essay Competition, organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society has become a very popular competition with Seychellois students. This competition is organised every year in different categories according to age group. Competitors are given a number of themes to choose from.
The 2008/9 competition has brought satisfactory results with many essays being commended and highly commended.
Three highly commended essays are from Saunved Mutalik of Anse Royale Secondary, Melissa Aglae from Plaisance Secondary and Bertrand Loze from Plaisance Primary schools. Commendations were also recorded from six other schools.
The Ministry of Education would like to congratulate the students and wish them more success in their endeavour.
