New tanker Seychelles Paradise launched |18 August 2009
Mitcy Larue, member of the National Assembly for Baie Ste Anne, performed the naming ceremony as the tanker was launched last Friday, at 4pm Seychelles time, at the Lindenau shipyard in Kiel-Friedrichsort.
Also present were Captain Guy Adam, chairman of the Seychelles Petroleum Company, (Sepec), dignitaries from Seychelles and Germany, and shipyard officials.
Seychelles Paradise was ordered by Sepec to ensure an economical and environmentally safe supply of LPG and other fuel to the inner islands.
This will support the fast-growing local economy on Praslin and its satellite islands.
Seychelles Paradise will also function as a bunker tanker for vessels calling at Port Victoria and as a training vessel for all the Seychellois cadets under the Sepec cadetship programme.
The double-hull “green” tanker is designed for high manoeuvrability, achieved with two full spade profile rudders and a powerful bow thruster.
It is also designed for minimum fuel consumption, achieved by optimised ship lines and large propellers.
Seychelles Paradise is 67.80 metres long with a cargo tank capacity of 1,650 cubic metres, a deadweight of 1,550 tonnes and a speed of 10.2 knots.
