Air Seychelles to resume flights to Frankfurt and Zurich |28 February 2009
The departure of the Seychelles-Frankfurt-London flight will be on Saturday night with the return flight leaving on Sunday, and the Seychelles-Zurich-London service will leave on Thursday, returning on Friday.
Air Seychelles operated its first Frankfurt flight some 25 years ago, in October 1983, while the inaugural flight to Zurich took place in 1993.
Frankfurt and Zurich represent stable markets, the third most important for Seychelles in Europe, where the country is highly regarded for its luxury appeal, climate, environment and nature.
The airline will be targeting business clientele and an 80% increase of traffic is envisaged on these routes, which will also serve to consolidate the London route. Also, Zurich offers attractive rates that will make it easier to sell.
Air Seychelles’ executive chairman, Captain David Savy, said: “With the arrival of a fourth B767 in our fleet in March this year, we are able to reintroduce services to both Zurich and Frankfurt, which are important markets for our islands.
“It has always been our intention to get back into those markets, and the opportunity has once again arisen. The intention is to build sufficient numbers so as to eventually operate stand-alone and dedicated services to the UK, Germany and Switzerland.”
Some 20,749 German visitors and 5,188 from Switzerland came to Seychelles during 2008.
The new service will be operated by the B767-300 aircraft in business class and economy class configuration.
