Football officials keen to improve their level |29 January 2009
Over the years, referees and their assistants have been criticised for poor and inconsistent officiating. Referees’ coordinator Eddie Maillet is keen to see the level improve this year, starting with Saturday’s friendly match between St Michel and St Louis Suns, who are preparing for friendly overseas trips.
“We want to build on what we have done well in the past and at the same time learn from our mistakes,” Maillet told Sports Nation.
“We also need to work on consistency in refereeing and at the same time bring referees and assistant referees on par with changes in the rules of the game.”
The training of local officials will continue tomorrow when they will camp at the Maison Football, Roche Caïman. The training will end on Saturday.
A total of 60 officials, among them 10 from Praslin, are to receive training from Maillet, Roch Henriette, Danny Poiret, Lewis Madeleine and Philip Sinon.
