Golf-Sunil Shah shows the way with Barclay win

Shah was sitting pretty with a magnificent 29 net at the end of the first nine aided by some solid all-round golf.  While the rest of the field struggled through the hot and sticky weather, he seemed unfazed and determined to post a fighting score on the board and only Wilby Volcère came anywhere close to challenging him after nine holes had been played.

As a matter of fact, if it hadn’t been for Shah’s low-scoring front nine effort, he might well have kissed goodbye his chances of winning anything, as he faltered heavily on the back nine to a mediocre 40 net!  If it was not for his 12-year-old son who was caddying for him he would have thrown it all away with an even worse showing.  The youngster, his best critic by the pater’s own admission, egged him on just sufficiently to manage a total of 69, which on that sweltering day was enough to fetch Shah the Edinburgh crystal mug.

Volcère managed a 70 net to take second place. Richard D’Offay, who has recently returned to the golfing fold after losing his way into cricket for a while, displayed remarkable composure to come back strongly on the back nine for a net 72 total and take third place.

The sponsors sent their apologies for not having their representative at the prize-giving ceremony.  Club captain Sunil Shah thanked Barclays Bank Seychelles for their continued support of competitive golf in Seychelles.
