Bodybuilding: Mr Universe 2007-No rankings for Seychellois flex posers |07 November 2007
The competition, which took place in Jeju, South Korea from October 25 to 29, was organised by the IFBB in partnership with the Korean Bodybuilding Federation (KBBF), together with the Jeju Bodybuilding Federation (JBBF) and the Special Self-Governing Province of Jeju.
Seychelles was represented at the contest by Nano Camille, Dereck Dogley (both competed in the 85-kg category) and Joe Gabriel (70-kg division). They were accompanied by Seychelles Amateur Bodybuilding Association (Sabba) secretary and treasurer Roxy Athanase who also attended the IFBB International Congress.
According to Athanase, it was a very high-level contest in terms of quality of the participating athletes and officiating. He also explained that the participants had good financial backing and that they were well ahead of Seychellois participants in terms of competition experience.
It is to be noted that prior to the competition, Nano Camille was occupying 14th spot on the IFBB ranking in his category.
The overall winner of the competition was Polish flex poser Robert Piotrkowicz who competed in the 100-kg category.
Another remarkable exploit at the competition was by Malaysian bodybuilder Sazali Samad who made history by winning a fourth Mr Universe title in his category which is 70-kg.
Sazali took his first title when Malaysia hosted the championships in 2000 and he repeated the feat in Moscow in 2004. He was the silver medallist in the 2005 edition in Shanghai but bounced back to win again in Ostrava, the Czech Republic, last year.
