NBC Today Show throws North Island, Seychelles honeymoon |27 October 2007
The couple, who hail from the U.S. state of Arizona , beat out more than 20,000 applicants to win a dream wedding planned by Martha Stewart as part of a special feature on Today. However, viewers of the show also had a say in the organization of a number of aspects of the wedding, including the cake, bridesmaid dresses, wedding bands, the wedding dress, and finally, the honeymoon.
Working with U.S.-based holiday specialists Virtuoso Travel, the Today show presented four different honeymoon itineraries around, and viewers voted on the destination to which they wanted to see the couple travel. A getaway to North Island , Seychelles received the most votes, over other destinations like Turkey, India and Argentina/Uruguay.
During the couple’s stay in the archipelago, they were able to experience the barefoot luxury of the exclusive 11-villa resort, with their own personal butler, private plunge pool and world class cuisine.
They also had opportunities to dive, snorkel, hike along nature trails and learn more about the island’s unique environment and the conservation efforts undertaken on the island.
The couple also enjoyed a walk through the legendary Vallée de Mai and a visit to the beautiful beach of Anse Lazio on the island of Praslin, as well as a helicopter tour of La Digue and its surrounding islands.
As part of the show, the Helgesons shot a self-made video of their honeymoon in Seychelles, which will eventually be edited and aired on the Today show to its more than 8 million viewers in the U.S.
