Basketball: National league-Baya keep on winning, SMB lose again |01 September 2007
Following their impressive 100-62 triumph over Pointe Larue Falcons last weekend, the boys of coach Michel Malbrook trounced Anse Boileau-based Angels 90-42 in their third league encounter last Tuesday at Victoria Gymnasium.
After winning the first quarter 16-5, Baya increased the tempo in the second quarter which they won 21-7 thus concluding the first half of the match on a 37-12 score.
In the third quarter, Baya scored another 25 points compared to 16 for Angels while in the fourth and last quarter it was obvious that Baya’s aim was to reach the century mark as in their previous match.
Angels, however, sustained the pressure and prevented Baya from reaching the 100-point mark, thus concluding the last quarter on a 28-14 score and the match 90-42.
Giovanni Laval was Baya’s top scorer with 19 points while with 12 points, Garry Duprès led the scoring for Angels.
In another Men’s division 1A match played during the week, Cascade Bullets handed SMB Razorbacks their second consecutive defeat following the weekend loss at the hands of PLS Hawks.
After losing the first and second quarter 19-20 and 7-14 respectively, SMB Razorbacks fought back to successfully clinch the third quarter 20-12 only to see Cascade Bullets come back stronger in the fourth and final quarter to win it 17-14 and secure the match 60-63.
Captain Biko Biong had the hot hands for the Bullets with 16 points while captain Sandy Moustache was SMB Razorbacks’ top scorer with 18 points.
In a Men’s division 1B encounter, Juniors defeated Anse Etoile 65-57. With 24 points, Abdel Sylla finished as Juniors’ top scorer while Steven Florine and Jason Jean both contributed 18 points for Anse Etoile.
