In a brief address, Mrs Simeon remarked that the certificate presentation ceremony was the first of its kind to be organized since students at S5 level started sitting for the IGCSE.

She noted that “since the introduction of the IGCSE in Seychelles, the results of these examinations have shown a continuous upward trend every year with more and more students excelling in specific subject areas as well as overall”.

She said “last year’s results showed some really outstanding performances and that the Ministry of Education recorded an overall pass rate of 92% at Grade C and better, with four students scoring straight ‘A’s in all subjects they sat for”.

Addressing the students who have excelled, Mrs Simeon said “The Cambridge International Examinations body has expressed their appreciation for such an excellent performance”, adding “we celebrate your success and share your pride. You serve as role models to students in our secondary schools who this year or in the future will also strive for success”.

Besides the students and officials from the Ministry of Education, the ceremony was also attended by headteachers of the respective schools of the students who had done well in the exams.
