Crash of Kenya Airways plane-President Michel sends message of sympathy |08 May 2007

President Michel’s message reads:
“It is with much sadness that I have learned of the crash of a Kenya Airways Boeing 737-800 en route to Nairobi.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Seychelles, I wish to extend to you, to the people of Kenya and to the families of the victims, our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences.

“In this moment of national grief, please accept our expression of solidarity.”
According to international reports, efforts were still on yesterday to reach the wreckage of the crashed Kenya Airways plane, with officials warning there was “practically no chance” that any of the 114 people on board survived.

The Boeing 737-800 began its journey in the Ivory Coast city of Abidjan, and collected passengers on a stopover in Douala (Cameroon) before heading for Nairobi.
The plane was carrying 105 passengers from at least 23 countries.

According to reports, the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, after flight KQ 507 vanished from radar screens in a violent storm on its way from Douala to Nairobi.
